Series of events are causing sleepless nights for millions of football fans following and supporting the Super Eagles of Nigeria on their fourth World Cup appearance. The 2010 World Cup is special for Super Eagles fans because this will be the first time the competition will be hosted on African soil and Nigerian fans expect a good outing for their beloved team.
Since the appointment of Lars Lagerback last February, both the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and coach Lagerback failed to arrange practice sessions and properly schedule international friendly matches. With the recent April 27 and 28 training camp cancellation due to clubs refusing to release their players. Furthermore, Lagerback has not had enough time to access players to make team selection ahead of the World Cup. These are all elements of poor preparations that Nigerian football fans have seen before with the Super Eagles and the Nigerian Football Federation on many occasions.
Poor preparation has been a common problem with African and Nigeria football federations unlike the previous World Cup Nigeria attended this is the worst in terms for preparation. As May approaches it leaves coach Lagerback only with a month and several days to prepare for their opening match against Argentina on June 12, 2010. The Super Eagles World Cup training camp opens on May 19 and 20 respectable followed by an international friendly with Columbia on May 30, Lars Lagerback's first game as the head coach of the Super Eagles. After the match, it leaves the team with 12 days before the World Cup, this gives fans little hope due to lack of preparation.
